Clayton Daughenbaugh - Wild Utah: America’s Red Rock Wilderness

Wild Utah: America’s Red Rock Wilderness. It is the largest network of undesignated wilderness lands remaining in the lower 48 states. A multi-media slideshow narrated by Robert Redford, will motivate us to participate in the movement to protect these unique and threatened public lands.

The speaker is Clayton Daughenbaugh, conservation organizer with the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance.

America’s red rock wilderness draws pilgrims from around the world. It is the largest network of undesignated wilderness lands remaining in the lower 48 states. The program includes “Wild Utah”, a multi-media slideshow. This 15-minute journey through red rock splendor, narrated by Robert Redford invigorates and motivates viewers to participate in the movement to protect these unique and threatened public lands. The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and its partners in the Utah Wilderness Coalition seek to gain local support for the “Citizens’ Proposal” to protect wilderness areas in Utah’s red rock canyonlands. Comprehensive legislation is pending in Congress and administrative decisions by the White House and the Department of Interior are ongoing.

“These are spectacular public lands owned by all Americans. As citizens we have a great opportunity to act to protect these special places,” Daughenbaugh said.

Daughenbaugh also serves as the volunteer Chair of the Sierra Club’s National Wildlands Committee.

Campfire Program.

Join us for an outdoor campfire program, complete with songs, treats, and friends.

Weather permitting we hope to have our meeting outdoors overlooking the Fox River. We have enjoyed campfire programs for the past two years. Bring your friends. Bring a song or story, if you like.

We will still have important announcements, but this will primarily be a social event.

In the event of bad weather we will have to move indoors and we'll provide a different program.

Bring folding chairs and perhaps a light coat to enjoy an outdoors campfire meeting. We’ll enjoy the autumn evening and camaraderie as we talk about the Autumn Assembly, tell stories, enjoy smores and snacks, and perhaps sing a few sings. Can you teach us a song?
